Season-to-Date NASCAR Driver Ratings

Matt Kenseth moved up a spot in the rankings after winning Saturday's Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

1. Carl Edwards: Extended his lead in the standings to five after a solid outing in Charlotte. Once Talladega and its uncertainty passes, Edwards looks to be in good shape with the four tracks that finish out the Chase.
Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 100.4
Point Standing: First
Last Week's Ranking: First

2. Kevin Harvick: Said at the beginning of the Chase he needed to get through the first five races before making a move. Has done a fine job in the opening half of the playoffs including a second straight sixth-place finish Saturday night.
Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 92.5
Point Standing: Second
Last Week's Ranking: Third

3. Matt Kenseth: The father of the Chase after his 2003 championship season may just add another title to his collection this time under the new playoff format. Like his Roush teammate Edwards, should be a major factor at Texas and Homestead given his Charlotte performance.
Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 98.2
Point Standing: Third
Last Week's Ranking: Fourth

4. Kyle Busch: Finally made some noise in the Chase with a stellar effort in Charlotte. The Joe Gibbs Racing team needed something positive to happen after a mediocre start to the playoffs and got a big boost with Busch’s run Saturday night.
Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 107.4
Point Standing: Fourth
Last Week's Ranking: Seventh

5. Tony Stewart: Made a nice recovery from his Kansas woes and pit road mistake with a pole winning effort in Charlotte and a good finish in the Bank of America 500. Smoke has kept himself within striking distance of a third title with half the Chase to go.
Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 91.7
Point Standing: Fifth
Last Week's Ranking: Eighth

6. Jimmie Johnson: Didn’t look like he had a car capable of winning in Charlotte but was certainly running well enough for a top 10 or even top-five finish, until disaster struck. Johnson’s crash handed him a 34th-place finish and he has a 35 point deficit to make up in five races to keep his championship streak alive.
Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 101.2
Point Standing: Eighth
Last Week's Ranking: Second

7. Kurt Busch: An okay night for Busch who now has to deal with speculation crew chief Steve Addington will bolt the Shell/Pennzoil team at season’s end. It will be interesting to see how Busch handle the pressure and controversy that will come as the story develops while trying to run for a title.
Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 97.2
Point Standing: Seventh
Last Week's Ranking: Sixth

8. Brad Keselowski: Not the weekend the Blue Deuce team expected with a bad qualifying effort leading to a mediocre race effort. Keselowski isn’t out of the title picture yet but has to string together two straight good weeks in short order to remain in the discussion.
Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 87.1
Point Standing: Sixth
Last Week's Ranking: Fifth

9. Jeff Gordon: All of a sudden Gordon’s season has crumbled and what looked like a promising run for a fifth championship has now been turned into a 2012 preparation.
Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 97.2
Point Standing: 11th
Last Week's Ranking: Ninth

10. Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Add in pit road execution problems to Earnhardt’s mounting issues as the season winds down. Didn’t have a great car Saturday night but any chance of salvaging a decent finish were thwarted by a loose wheel and return to pit road in the later stages.
Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 83.6
Point Standing: Ninth
Last Week's Ranking: 10th
