Season-to-Date NASCAR Driver Ratings

Tony Stewart moved up in the rankings after winning Monday's GEICO 400 at Chicagoland Speedway.

1. Carl Edwards: Very fast and led much of Monday until getting shuffled back with some handling issues. Fuel strategy scenarios for others down the stretch helped Edwards to a fourth-place finish.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 99.9
Point Standing: Third
Last Week's Ranking: Second

2. Jeff Gordon: Good work on behalf of his team to take a poor handling car and make it competitive. However, became a victim of the fuel game and saddled with a finish that did not reflect how competitive Gordon was in Chicago.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 97.6
Point Standing: 11th
Last Week's Ranking: First

3. Jimmie Johnson: Was sailing away to what looked like a first Chicago victory but gave up the lead on pit stops and then had a third-place finish wiped away by fuel mileage miscalculation. Settled for a 10th-place finish.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 99.3
Point Standing: Eighth
Last Week's Ranking: Third

4. Kevin Harvick: One of the drivers on the good side of the fuel game and once crew chief Gil Martin was sure the No. 29 car had enough, Harvick took off for the lead. Came up a position short of win number five of 2011 but a good start to the Chase.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 92.1
Point Standing: First
Last Week's Ranking: Sixth

5. Tony Stewart: Got revenge for running out of fuel on the last lap of last year’s Chase opener in New Hampshire with a Chicagoland victory. Stewart led a solid day for Stewart-Haas Racing as it heads to New Hampshire where things went well for the team in July.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 90.3
Point Standing: Second
Last Week's Ranking: Ninth

6. Kyle Busch: Recovered from handling issues and running over a piece of debris to get back toward the front. Another fuel mileage victim and the number one seed going into the Chase began his championship quest with a disappointing first race.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 107.9
Point Standing: Ninth
Last Week's Ranking: Fourth

7. Matt Kenseth: The Roush Fenway Racing driver has never liked fuel mileage racing and it cost him a win on Sunday. The bad news for Kenseth is there will certainly be more of the same coming up again in the next nine weeks at some point.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 96.1
Point Standing: 10th
Last Week's Ranking: Fifth

8. Brad Keselowski: Began his Chase with a nice fifth-place finish and kept his storybook Sprint Cup Series season alive. Played the fuel mileage game and the Blue Deuce team won.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 87.0
Point Standing: 7th
Last Week's Ranking: Eighth

9. Kurt Busch: Nothing spectacular but a sixth-place finish to begin his pursuit of a second Sprint Cup title. Had built a large lead at one point but shuffled back and settled for a top 10.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 98.0
Point Standing: Fourth
Last Week's Ranking: Seventh

10. Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Began his first Chase appearance in three years with a third-place finish. Was a beneficiary of the fuel mileage scenarios but Junior Nation will take it as will the Hendrick Motorsports organization.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 84.2
Point Standing: Fifth
Last Week's Ranking: N/R

Out This Week: Denny Hamlin (was 10th)
