DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Thanks to some brotherly love Brian Keselowski will have his dream come true on Sunday.

Brad Keselowski drafted his older brother in Thursday's Gatorade Duel at Daytona 150-mile qualifying race and pushed the independent driver into Sunday's 53rd running of the Daytona 500.

Keselowski finished fifth in the day's second qualifier and earned the 12th starting spot in Sunday's running of "The Great American Race."

“It still goes to show you that you got a chance no matter what,” said Brian. “You find a guy to push you, thank God it was my brother, I don’t know if anybody else would have stuck with me that long."

Driving a Dodge fielded by the Keselowski family, Brian's run gave the independent operation a major boost of confidence and momentum and helped write one of the most unbelievable underdog stories in recent Dayotna history.

“It gives everybody a shot at it and says that the independent guy that can go out and find a race car, put it together, get a good push, everybody’s got a chance at that," Brian said, who gave total credit to Brad to helping him along in the draft with his Penske Racing Miller Lite Dodge.

I didn’t think my car was fast enough for him to even worry about me at that point,” Brian Keselowski said. “I told him, ‘If you can get behind me and push me, that’s great.’

“He’s like, ‘I don’t think you’re fast enough.’ I’m like, ‘You’re right.’”

Brian says he felt confident that if he and his brother could get together on the race track they'd be able to use the two-car drafting phenomenon that has been the story of this "Speedweeks" to their advantage.

“I said, ‘Heck, I’ve got a great guy to work with back here after the spin and at least I know that he’s not going to dump me,’” Brad Keselowski said. “The next thing you know we’re running fourth, fifth and then second. I put the pedal to the floor and kept on pushing. I restarted on that last restart ninth or 10th, drove up there to sixth or seventh and just kind of stalled out. It’s a great feeling.”

Brian Keselowski cried after the race. The first to the car to congratulate him was Brad.

“He’s got to be the best pusher out here. He’s got to be,” Brian Keselowski said of Brad. “To watch him push everybody for the past two or three years, and then push me into this thing. This dog would not hunt all weekend long and then to push me into the race, I don’t know what they got under that hood but it’s awesome.”

“I can’t say that I’ve always been there every step of the way. But I think I was there today,” Brad Keselowski added. “I’m going to ask Roger (Penske) if he can help him with a motor on Sunday. Hopefully we can work together on Sunday, too.”
