DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Denny Hamlin showed the way on Friday during Preseason Thunder with a lap of 196.868 mph as more drivers tested out the draft at Daytona International Speedway.
Hamlin completed 75 laps in his No. 11 Toyota and took part in a two-car draft with a number of drivers including Tony Stewart and his teammate Joey Logano.
Stewart, who ran 73 laps, was second quick with a lap of 196.855 mph in the No. 14 Chevrolet.
Logano (196.691), Brad Keselowski (196.194) and Jeff Burton (195.848) rounded out the top five.
Steve Wallace, who was 11th on the speed chart (193.682) and the last to crack the 190 mph barrier, took part in drafting practice in preparation for his debut in the Daytona 500 next month.
"I think that's a really big step for me," Wallace said. "This is the Daytona 500. I'm a rookie at this. This is my first race. I'm not coming down here to win the race. I'm coming down here to have a strong finish, run good, get some respect, don't crash the car, finish the race. If we can do that, I feel like we'll have a shot at it."
Today's session was delayed by rain and extended to 6 p.m. ET.
Teams that opted to leave at the conclusion of the second day were the No. 00, No. 33, No. 48 and the No. 56.
The final day of Preseason Thunder will take place tomorrow.
