Confidence Better For Edwards

After a second-place run in Saturday night's 400 at Chicagoland Speedway, Carl Edwards has a much better outlook for his Sprint Cup Series effort.

The runner-up run behind race winner David Reutimann was the boost Edwards needed to help get the No. 99 Roush Fenway Racing team back into the picture as a race winning contender.

"The good thing is that we had the fastest car at the end of the race," Edwards said. "If you have the fastest car at the end of the race every week, you'll win plenty of races.

"If we can just do this more often, we will have turned the page and we've got a lot of good things to look forward to."

Although Edwards has maintained a spot inside the Chase cut-off of top twelve drivers in the Sprint Cup Series standings, the performance of the team and, in fact, the entire Ford camp this season has been a concern.

With the new FR9 engine now employed full time and other behind the scenes issues taken care of, Edwards believes there are better days ahead.

"I know we can run that well," Edwards said. "We've done it. We did it (at Chicagoland). We just have to figure out how to do that every week.

"I hope this is something that we can go back, talk about on Monday, figure out why our car was so much different this week than it has been and maybe apply it."

In addition to the support Edwards gets from the Roush organization, he also has the luxury of feedback and resources at Richard Petty Motorsports, which shares a partnership with RFR.

Edwards said that relationship, particularly with the No. 9 RPM team, was instrumental in scoring his best finish of the season on Saturday night.

"Right up to the driver intros, I was talking to Kasey (Kahne) about his car, what we thought our cars were going to do, how they worked in practice," Edwards said. "Those parts and that help from (crew chief) Kenny Francis, that's probably what really made the difference tonight for us."
