Start Number 300 For Johnson

Jimmie Johnson will take the green flag for his 300th career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start in Sunday's running of the Aaron's 499 at Talladega Superspeedway.

The four-time series champion made his first start on October of 2001 at Charlotte Motor Speedway and since then has notched some staggering numbers.

Johnson has scored fifty wins notching victories in 16.72 percent of those he's competed in. He has brought home top-five finishes in 40.8% of those races and top-10 results in 62.2%.

"I can't believe it'll be my 300th start this weekend," Johnson said. "It doesn't seem like that long ago that I was climbing in a Cup car for the first time. It's been a pretty amazing ride so far and I still can't believe I get to drive racecars for a living. It's pretty cool.

"I'm also very proud of my team and what we've done together and also what I've accomplished as a driver. We've had a lot of pretty cool stuff happen to us in 300 starts. I'm looking forward to what's ahead for this team. I know we have a lot of racing left in us."

That includes Sunday's race at the 2.66-mile Talladega speedplant, where Johnson has made 16 Sprint Cup Series start. He has one win, four top-five and seven top-10 finishes.

Sunday's race marks the first at the track with the new rear spoiler in place on the Cup car and Johnson is anxious to see how things play out.

"We were able to get some good information during the test but until we get there in actual race conditions there are still some unknowns," Johnson said. "You'll still drive wide open around Talladega and hooking up in a two car draft may be the way to go but I'll be anxious to start practicing this weekend so we can see what will actually work."
