Kyle Busch followed his sweep of last May's Nationwide Series and Sprint Cup Series races at Richmond International Raceway with a pole-winning performance in Friday's qualifying session for the Crown Royal Presents the Heath Calhoun 400.

Busch scored his sixth career Sprint Cup Series pole and his first in 11 tries at Richmond. He was victorious in last May's race after starting from the 14th position.

“It's a fun short track,” said Busch who also won the pole for Friday night's Nationwide Series race. “It's pretty fast and it usually spreads out, and you'll get a lot of grooves to choose from. You can pretty much count on the usual exciting short-track racing."

Busch's pole-winning speed of 127.077 mph bested David Reutimann's run of 126.618 mph. It's the first all Toyota front row since Chicago last season.

After some on-track altercations in the past few races, Hendrick Motorsports teammates Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon will start alongside each other in row 2.

"I mean everybody wants the controversy, maybe if I throw my Gatorade at him it will start something and get everybody talking some more." Johnson said on pit road after his lap. "Aside from having a little fun there, great lap for us. We kind of found our way late in practice. Chad (Knaus, crew chief) made some decisions on what we needed for qualifying. The first lap was a little sketchy but the second lap was good. I am pretty happy with it."

Ryan Newman rounded out the top five to give Chevrolet positions three through five.

Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick, Jamie McMurray, Brian Vickers and Clint Bowyer completed the first ten qualifiers.

Dave Blaney and Michael McDowell failed to qualify for the race.

Saturday night's 400-lap race is slated for a 7:30 p.m. ET green flag with live coverage on FOX and MRN Radio.
