Special Day Ahead For Gibbs Family

CONCORD, N.C. - The Joe Gibbs Racing family will be taking over the zMax Dragway in Concord, N.C. in May to celebrate a special occasion.

The team will not be racing down the quarter-mile to the finish line, but will use to the facility to celebrate the finish of three years of treatments for JD Gibbs’ son, Taylor (5), who was diagnosed with leukemia back in 2007.

The event, which will be called “Taylor’s Finish Line Festival,” will be held at the dragway the day after the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series All-Star race on May 23.

Both JD and Joe Gibbs were on hand to make the announcement during the second stop of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Media Tour.

"Taylor's treatment, Lord willing, ends this spring," JD Gibbs said. "We want to celebrate, to say thank you to Make-A-Wish and to Levine's Children's Hospital."

The festival will have a fair-type atmosphere with approximately 40 rides, driver appearances and a concert featuring TobyMac.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Levine Children's Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center - Charlotte.

“We have never had an event like this after the All-Star race on Sunday,” said Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. “When JD and Melissa came to us and said, ‘What do you think about doing this event for us and with us?’ With Speedway Children’s Charities we are all about helping kids. This is just a neat opportunity for us.”

More details about “Taylor’s Finish Line Festival” will be released in the upcoming months.
