RPM Teammates Ready For Action

Kasey Kahne and Elliott Sadler are set to make the move to Ford and compete for wins in 2010 as part of the new look for Richard Petty Motorsports team.

As the off-season winds down, Kahne is anticipating a strong performance from the No. 9 Budweiser team now that the dust has settled on the RPM changes which included a merger with Yates Racing.

"Yeah, it's actually looking good," Kahne said of the move which now includes an alliance with Roush Fenway Racing. "We've changed some things around with Yates and Ford, Richard Petty Motorsports. It's been a pretty crazy off-season trying to get the cars built, trying to get familiar with the new surroundings.

"But, you know, I'm really looking forward to it. I think we're going to have a better engine package. Working with a bigger group of people should benefit everybody at RPM. We have some great teammates, Carl (Edwards) and Matt (Kenseth) and Greg (Biffle), David (Ragan), then myself and Elliott and AJ (Allmendinger), Paul Menard. We have a neat team. Look forward to trying to learn and stay fast. I think we can do a really good job this year."

After spending several seasons in the Dodge camp, Kahne isn't concerned about any learning curve in his move to a Ford.

"We have the same core group of guys that were on the 9 car," he said. "We have a little bit different body with the Ford body. We have a different group of people we're working with, a touch more power.

"To me it's a little bit of a bonus. I'm looking forward to it. But our cars will drive the same way they did last year really."

Sadler shares Kahne's optimism about piloting a Ford and says the team's transition has gone smoothly this winter because of communication.

"Yeah, we definitely are staying in touch with each other, having meetings weekly," Sadler said. "Everybody's excited to get to Daytona. But we still need a little bit more time. We're building new cars, trying to get everything as prepared as we can so when we leave to go down for the 500 we have our Vegas and Atlanta cars and California cars and all the stuff done."

As for the transition from Dodge and a return to Ford, Sadler says it's been a smooth one.

"It's been great so far," he said. "I'm very much looking forward to getting back in a Ford. I feel like I had a lot of success when I drove for Mr. Yates early in his engine program. I have a lot of respect for Doug Yates, what they're doing. So be neat to get back in a Ford again.

"I think it's gonna prove to do us a pretty good job. Kasey had a great tire test at California. Very happy about the things that we've learned from the Ford camp and kind of put in the things that we were already doing. We're already a little bit more optimistic, it seems like, week by week before we get to Daytona."
