Harvick Happy About Start

Four races into the season and Kevin Harvick likes what he sees at Richard Childress Racing and is optimistic about the rest of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season for the No. 29 Pennzoil Chevrolet.

"I think our season's gone well," said Harvick, who sits eighth in the series point standings heading into Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. "The performance of our car has been really good in all four races. We had some trouble at Atlanta and Las Vegas getting caught on pit road under green-flag stops, and last week we made up two laps and finished fourth."

Harvick has a couple of top-five finishes in the first four starts of the season, which has included only one really bad day that unfortunately ended his record streak of finishing races.

His problems at Auto Club Speedway handed Harvick a 38th-place finish and ended his DNF streak at nearly three years.

"California was probably the biggest letdown just because we ran in the top-10 all day and then had a little problem there at the end, but all in all, I think the performance has been good," Harvick said.

Heading to Bristol has Harvick pumped up since the Tennessee short track is one of his favorites and the RCR team has enjoyed success at the half-mile track in recent years.

"Our short-track program has always been good, so hopefully (this week will be) no different," he said.

Although Harvick enjoys racing at tracks like Bristol and Martinsville a couple times a year, he's not a fan of repeat visits to many tracks in the regular season.

Harvick cited Darlington Raceway's success since shrinking from two races to one race a year as the model he'd like to see the sport follow.

"There's a lot of different markets that we can go to, and that would make the sport even stronger than it already is," Harvick said. "Darlington has done a great job of selling this race out, and the fans really enjoy it. I think a second race would hurt a track like Las Vegas. It's hard to take a step back and undo something that's already been done."
