Edwards Down On The Farm

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla - Outside of racing Carl Edwards' hobbies include bicycling, aviation and fitness training.

But now you can add farming to the list.

During the offseason Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Ford for Roush-Fenway Racing, bought a farm in his home state of Missouri. He plans to use the land for his team members to hunt on and then eventually for harvest.

"Half of it is real nice for hunting and the other half is in CRP until next year and then when it comes out then will probably put (plant) beans - I don't know if we will do corn or not," Edwards said.

Prior to heading to Daytona for this weekend's Budweiser Shootout, Edwards spent the day looking at equipment for the new farm.

"I'm going to buy my first tractor," Edwards said. "I'm learning about all that."

For now, fans of Edwards won't have to worry about him trading in his helmet for a farmer’s hat to operate the tractor.

“I know nothing about farming, but I’m learning from my buddies," Edwards said. "I’m probably just going to operate the chain saw and clear trees and things like that. I don’t think I’ll be responsible for any planting or harvesting. I would definitely screw that up."

After a hectic weekend at the race track Edwards says the new farm could be the perfect place to escape to.

"It looks like a nice, peaceful thing to go do on a Monday or Tuesday."
