Bowyer Back Home

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Clint Bowyer hopes to make a triumphant return to his home track the Kansas Speedway with a victory in Sunday's Camping World RV 400 and move up in the NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup standings.

The Kansas native has made two starts at Kansas Speedway with one top-five and one top-10 finish.

“It’s always fun to go back to Kansas,” Bowyer said. “It’s an important race track for me. You always want to go back and run well in front of the hometown crowd.”

Bowyer came close to winning last year's race at the track which ended in a controversial finish when Greg Biffle was declared the winner, although he didn't cross the finish line first under caution.

NASCAR had declared the race over on the white flag lap freezing the field and despite Bowyer taking the checkered flag first, Biffle was still sent to victory lane.

"I’m not going to pay any attention to it,” Bowyer said. “I’m just going to try and be fast."

Bowyer moved up three positions, from ninth to sixth, in points following his eighth-place finish in last weekend’s Camping World 400 at Dover International Speedway.

But as the Chase rolls on, Bowyer doesn't see any additional pressure building yet.

"Not really. That’s what the Chase is all about," Bowyer said. "There’s a lot of hype and a lot of attention and exposure. From that standpoint, it’s just another race but, at the same time, it’s an important race for me, personally.”

Bowyer will have to step things up in his intermediate track effort this weekend at Kansas, which will see the new Sprint Cup car make its debut.

He has had a difficult time getting a handle on 1.5-mile track this season.

"We’ve been struggling all summer on those types of race tracks," he said. "We had a really good run and saw the light at the end of the tunnel a few weeks ago out in California. I know it was just a 10th-place finish but after the finishes we’ve had all summer long on the mile-and-a-halves, that was a big sigh of relief and a good step in the right direction.”
