BROOKLYN, Mich. – Carl Edwards led the way in Saturday’s final practice session as the Sprint Cup Series teams prepared for Sunday’s 3M Performance 400 here at Michigan International Speedway.

Edwards turned a lap of 182.537 mph to pace the day’s final session. Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin, Mark Martin and Jeff Burton rounded out the top five.

A.J. Allmendinger scraped the wall in his No. 84 Red Bull Racing Toyota but did not sustain any damage.

CUP SCHEDULE DUE
The 2009 Sprint Cup Series schedule is expected to be released this week and the three-way swap between Atlanta, Fontana and Talladega official. The Labor Day weekend will go to Atlanta in 2009 with Fontana taking an early October date, and a spot within the Chase, and Talladega shifting to late October. The Nationwide and truck series schedules are still in work but Iowa Speedway is expected to replace Mexico City in the Nationwide calendar. Chicagoland Speedway and Iowa are also reported to be replacing one date each at Atlanta and Martinsville.

MEARS TO RCR?
The fourth ride at Richard Childress Racing appears set for Casey Mears. Sources close to the situation report an official announcement will come at either Bristol or Fontana. There remains a possibility Mears will be released early from his Hendrick contract to make a handful of starts for RCR at the end of this season while Mark Martin will do the same from DEI to the No. 5 ride at Hendrick, which he’ll dirve full-time in 2009.

REUTIMANN BACK TO MWR
Michael Waltrip Racing has scheduled a press conference next weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway where a contract extension for David Reutimann is expected to become official. Although UPS will reportedly not return – headed to either David Ragan at Roush Fenway racing or as title sponsor of the truck series – Aaron’s is rumored to be stepping up into more of a full-time role.

DAVIS SELLING?
The Charlotte Observer is reporting Bill Davis may be willing to sell part of his team to a group including former Indy 500 winner Danny Sullivan.

"I've been pursuing it, but haven't gotten a response from (Davis). He's still dreaming on the price," Sullivan told The Observer "I have a partner who has lined up the money to do this and we've been kicking around on some stuff."

"We've had some conversations. ... We've continued to talk to Danny. We've talked to several people, yes. All we've ever talked about with anybody is the entire operation," Davis said.
