The NASCAR newswire continues to hum and RacingOne has the latest from around the garage area including the scoop from Pocono, Nationwide Series news and a sneak peek at the 2009 Sprint Cup Series schedule.

TRUEX JR. TO RCR?
The report last week in Indianapolis that Martin Truex, Jr. had signed an extension with DEI was shot down by both parties with an angry Truex Jr. lashing out at the story.

Sources in Pocono reported Truex Jr. was indeed in the mix at Richard Childress Racing for its new fourth ride.

"You've got to find the right person," Childress said. "You don't want to mess up the other three (teams). But we're still working on it and I think we'll get it done in the next couple of weeks."

But there were other indications Truex Jr. is still considering extending his stay at DEI.

“Yeah I’m closer [to deciding] – what else do you got, there’s got to be something we could talk about that is better than that,” Truex said. “You’ll know soon. It’s coming."

Stay tuned.

HEAT WAS ON FOR EDWARDS-OSBORNE
All's well that ends well, but Carl Edwards and Bob Osborne weren't exactly on the same page Sunday in Pocono regarding the controversial lap 127 pit stop.

Osborbe called Edwards to pit road for fuel, giving up the lead in the process, and when rain hit the track immediately after the stop, it looked as if the move would not turn out as the crew chief had hoped.

Edwards and Osborne had a heated exchange over the radio and in person during the rain delay.

“I had to walk away, but, personally, I feel like we have a really good relationship," Edwards said of the confrontation and disagreement. "We can be brutally honest with one another and that’s really valuable. There’s no beating around the bush. If Bob feels a certain way about something, he tells me and I tell him and, to me, that’s really valuable.”

Fortunately for both, the decision worked out when the race went back to green. But had Mother Nature ended things, the pit stop might have had bigger ramifications to the No. 99 Roush Fenway team.

“I think it could be for certain teams, but not ours,' Osborne answered. "Carl and I, I don’t know what the perception is, but we argue on a regular basis. It’s not out of the ordinary for us to argue. We argue. We get mad at each other. We walk away and then we walk back together and calmer heads prevail and we have a discussion. We might argue again on the same subject and walk away and come back together, but through the arguments and through the discussions and through the handshakes and the hugs we come to terms with what we want to do and when we want to do it and 99 percent of the time it works out for us."

"Yes, sometimes it doesn’t and when it doesn’t, we say, ‘OK, we argued through it. We came to terms. We came to an agreement and it didn’t work out for either of us."

"24" REUNION
Carl Edwards was reunited with Kiefer Sutherland for the first time since appearing on the FOX television series "24" on Sunday at Pocono Raceway. Sutherland was the grand marshal and his upcoming movie "Mirrors" was on the hood of J.J. Yeley's No. 96 DLP Toyota.

“It was very cool having Kiefer here," Edwards said. "I had not seen him since I had the chance to be on their show. I had a really good time doing that.

"He’s a really cool guy. He’s a real nice guy and the coolest part was we got to the set and he shows up in this old hot-rod Chevelle convertible with mag wheels, dual exhaust. The first thing he does is, ‘Oh, come check out my car.’ I went over there with the hood up and he’s a cool guy, so that was neat to have him here today."

ADIOS MEXICO CITY
NASCAR made it official that the Nationwide Series will not return to Mexico City in 2009, ending a four-year trial to export stock car racing south of the border.

Although NASCAR will retain a presence in Mexico with the Corona Series, its number two division will not make the trip next year with the Mexico City date replaced by an American venue, rumored to be the Rusty Wallace-designed Iowa Speedway.

Series drivers and owners had mixed reactions on the four years in Mexico City - on a variety of topics.

“Well, it’s difficult logistically, to get there," said Dale Earnhardt, Jr. "And it’s a challenge for the trucks and trailers to get down across the border and through the highway to the race track."

"Now, I can’t say that I’ve ever had anything stolen out of my truck while it was parked in Mexico, but I can say that it happened at O’Reilly Raceway Park. So that was an unfortunate incident that our trailer got broke into. So, I can say that’s never happened in Mexico.”

2009 CUP SCHEDULE COMING
The entire Sprint Cup Series schedule is expected to be released by NASCAR in the next few weeks. RacingOne has learned the dates of a handful of races based on track ticket information including:

February 15 Daytona 500
February 22 Fontana
March 1 Las Vegas
March 29 Martinsville
May 24 Coca-Cola 600
July 4 Coke Zero 400 (Daytona)
July 11 Chicagoland

The fall switch between Fontana, Atlanta and Talladega is still in work and because Labor Day falls later in 2009 (September 7) there will most likely be a shuffle of dates in late summer/early fall.

THE GLEN ENTRY LIST
Forty-six cars are entered for this weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Centurion Boats at The Glen. Road Course experts Ron Fellows (No. 01 Chevrolet), Brian Simo (No. 34 Chevrolet), Boris Said (No. 60 Ford) and Max Papis (No. 70 Chevrolet) are entered. Marcos Ambrose will be in the No. 21 Ford this weekend.
