Franchitti Out Of Ride

Chip Ganassi Racing is shutting down its No. 40 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team leaving former Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti without a ride.

The Ganassi Dodge has been without sponsorship most of the 2008 season, a situation that eventually caused the team to be contracted from the previously three-car stable.

"This is a difficult decision for Felix and I that did not come without its share of anguish," team owner Chip Ganassi said in a statement. "In this tough business environment, continuing to run the car without proper funding has become increasingly difficult."

Ganassi will enter only the No. 41 Target Dodge for Reed Sorenson and the No. 42 Texaco Havoline Dodge for Juan Pablo Montoya in this weekend's Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.

Franchitti's best finish so far in his rookie Sprint Cup Series season was 22nd at Martinsville Speedway.

He has only made 10 starts in 2008, missing several races with a broken ankle suffered in a Nationwide Series race at Talladega back in April.

Franchitti won the 2007 Indianapolis 500 as well as the Indy Racing League championship.
