Bristol Qualifying Rained Out

Rain washed out qualifying on Friday for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway and the lineup will be based on the 2007 series point standings.

According to the NASCAR rulebook, the first five races of the season rely on last year's championship standing owners' points.

That puts defending champion Jimmie Johnson and his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon on the front row.

“It’s going to be nice to have that first pit stall." Johnson said. "And I don’t really care how we got it (laughs). We worked awfully hard last year to be where we are in points. We had a good day in practice today. We didn’t get a chance to make a qualifying run when the rain came. But we’ll take it and move on. It’s the last week for this luxury and we’ll take advantage of it and try to have a good race on Sunday.”

Clint Bowyer, Matt Kenseth and Casey Mears round the top five starters.

Series point leader and defending Food City 500 winner Kyle Busch takes the green flag 22nd.

Jeff Green, John Andretti and Patrick Carpentier will miss the race.

Sunday's Food City 500 is scheduled to take the green flag at 2 p.m. (ET).
