Montoya Tops Vegas Test

Juan Pablo Montoya jumped to the top of the speed charts in the final session of testing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway after he turned a lap of 186.761 mph in his No. 42A Dodge.

Montoya was one of six drivers, four of which were driving a Dodge, to run faster than Kasey Kahne's 2007 qualifying record of 184.856 mph.

A.J. Allmendinger (185.752), Casey Mears (185.344), Kahne (185.217) and Reed Sorenson (185.058) rounded out the top five.

Carl Edwards led the way in the morning session with a lap of 184.256 mph in his No. 99B Ford.

Michael Waltrip, Tony Stewart and Jeff Burton were involved in incidents in Turn 3 today.

Overall eight cars were damaged in the test.

The NASCAR Nationwide Series will now test at LVMS on Wednesday and Thursday, while the Sprint Cup Series heads to California Speedway on Thursday and Friday to complete Preseason Thunder testing.
