Busch ran a lap of 187.786 mph in his Joe Gibbs Racing M&M's Camry in the morning drafting session that opened Wednesday's test. A.J. Allemdinger was next 187.375 mph in his Red Bull Racing Toyota.
"We knew that the switch was going to be good and the reason we went to Toyota was for the pure fact that they want to go out there and compete and win races and win championships," Busch said. “So that's what we're here to do with them.
"The biggest thing was it was nice to see the Red Bull stuff up there, Bill Davis' stuff going fast. I'm not necessarily sure if it's a lot to do with their engines or just the way that the Camrys front end is shaped or what exactly it is. For what we've got going on with our program and the Gibbs stuff, we're proud of the way we came out of the box strong."
Greg Biffle, Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson rounded out the first five.
Busch again led the way in the afternoon session, turning a lap of 188.830 mph.
Matt Kenseth, Reed Sorenson, Jeff Gordon and Martin Truex, Jr. completed the first five in the session in the final session.
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will now test at Daytona on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
