Zoom in this holiday season to experience the thrill of auto racing in an original exhibit created by the Orlando Science Center in collaboration with Daytona International Speedway and its partners.

Discover the DAYTONA 500 offers a hands-on experience exploring the science and history behind auto racing with authentic racing cars, gear and the chance for guests to race scale models.

Discover the DAYTONA 500 will premiere at the Orlando Science Center on Friday, November 30 and be on display until Sunday, January 6, 2008. Get an up-close look at the marvelous machines that dominate Daytona International Speedway as you discover the science used to take the checkered flag.

Content will include a mixture of activities developed by the Science Center creative team combined with DAYTONA 500 memorabilia and authentic racing gear, including racing suits from Dale Jarrett and Richard Petty.

The centerpiece of the exhibit will be Jeff Gordon’s No. 24 DuPont Automotive Finishes Chevrolet, provided by Hendrick Motorsports. Other gear includes a life-size cutaway model of a stock car, a racing seat where guests can strap themselves in, an example of the Gatorade In Car Drinking System (G.I.D.S.) and a working V-8 engine. A garage area with a Pit Stop activity, a video wall showing historical race footage and driving simulators will also be major exhibit components.

In keeping with the Orlando Science Center’s commitment to providing learning experiences for all ages, a kid’s area will feature a battery-operated racecar for little ones to drive on their own miniature track, stations and other themed activities. Older kids and the young at heart will enjoy firsthand race excitement with the ultimate slot car and pinewood derby tracks as well as opportunities for remote control racing.

Authentic décor, displays and live demonstrations will vividly illustrate the scientific principles at work in the racing world. Discover the DAYTONA 500 will be on display throughout the upcoming holiday season and be a great companion piece to the Science Center’s other big holiday exhibit, Titanic – The Experience. Once Discover the DAYTONA 500 leaves, it is replaced by a trio of new exhibits, including one based on the hit animated film Robots, coming January 12, 2008.

Discover the DAYTONA 500 will be included with general exhibit admission to the Orlando Science Center, which is $14.95 for adults, $9.95 for kids (ages 3-11).
