Dave Blaney backed up his speed in practice Friday afternoon winning his first NEXTEL Cup Series Bud Pole Award and the first-ever for Toyota with a lap of 129.437 mph to claim the top spot for the Lenox Industrial Tools 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway.

"It’s a big boost for this team,” said Blaney, who pilots the No. 22 Caterpillar Toyota for Bill Davis Racing. "We had a really solid car all day long. You don’t get cars like that every week, and you have to take advantage of it."

Kurt Busch, who swept both NEXTEL Cup races in Loudon in 2004, witll start outside the front row in the Penske racing Miller Lite Dodge.

Reed Sorenson, Johnny Sauter and Juan Pablo Montoya rounded out the first five qualifiers.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Kevin Harvick, Jeff Gordon, Martin Truex, Jr. and Jimmie Johnson completed the top ten.

Gordon, who along with teammate Jimmie Johnson was penalized 100 points and $100,000 for violations found before qualifying in Sonoma last week, voiced his displeasure over the punishment.

"I'm extremely disappointed in NASCAR and the decisions that they've made," Gordon said.

"But I will say we're crystal clear going forward. I just think if you would have asked any crew chief in this garage area prior to last week if that had occurred to them what they thought the penalty would be, I guarantee you they would have never have come close to the penalty that was served."

Brian Vickers had made the field with a qualifying lap of 127.338 mph, which was disallowed when the Red Bull Toyota failed inspection. The left-front corner of the Camry car was found to be too low.

That knocked Vickers out of the race and put Chad Chaffin into Sunday's field.

Six drivers failed to qualify for Sunday's race: A.J. Allmendinger, Dale Jarrett, Kenny Wallace, Chad Chaffin, Scott Riggs and Michael Waltrip.

Sunday's Lenox Industrial Tools 300 will take the green flag at 2:30 p.m. (ET).
