Richmond Postponed Until Sunday

Although NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series officials attempted to begin the running of the Crown Royal Presents the "Jim Stewart 400" at Richmond International Raceway, mother nature has postponed the race until Sunday at 1 p.m. (ET).

NASCAR began the race under green and yellow flags in the hopes that rain showers would hold off and racing could get underway. Unfortunately, more showers hit the Richmond, Virginia, area. As a result, NASCAR put out the red flag shortly after 8 p.m. (ET).

After waiting until 8:47 p.m. (ET), NASCAR officially postponed the race until Sunday.

When the race begins on Sunday, it will begin from Lap 1. Jeff Gordon will start from pole position, with Carl Edwards starting alongside him.

The last Cup race postponed by rain was the 2006 Aaron's 499 at Talladega Superspeedway, which was delayed one day to May 1 and won by Jimmie Johnson.

Fox (TV), MRN Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio will provide full coverage of the event.
