Borland Out At MWR

Crew Chief Matt Borland and Michael Waltrip Racing have parted ways prior to this weekend's Crown Royal Presents The Jim Stewart 400 at Richmond International Raceway.

Borland, who joined Michael Waltrip Racing at the beginning of the season, had been crew chief of the No. 44 UPS Toyota Camry driven by Dale Jarrett.

The change comes just days after Jarrett had to use his final Past Champions Provisional to qualify into a race, failing to be quick enough to time his way into a race for the sixth time this year at Talladega Superspeedway last Sunday.

"Dale Jarrett wasn't happy, UPS wasn't happy, and we had to do something immediately," Waltrip told "Originally, we had hoped that Matt Borland would take the role as the technical director, but he wasn't ready to come off the road. We need a technical director down the road, but it wasn't going to help us this weekend."

Prior to joining MWR, Borland was crew chief for Ryan Newman and the No. 12 Alltel Dodge for Penske Racing.

In nine races this season, Jarrett has recorded a best finish of 22nd at the season opening Daytona 500 and finished 30th or worse six times, including last weekend’s 40th place result.

Jason Burdett, formerly with Robert Yates Racing, will take over crew chief duties for the team this weekend.
