Surprising Start For Stremme

David Stremme is a big believer in momentum.

After ending the 2006 year on a positive note, including an 11th-place finish in the season-ending Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Stremme has carried that success into the new year.

An 11th-place finish in the Daytona 500 and a 19th at California Speedway has Stremme in the tenth spot of the NEXTEL Cup standings.

"The strong finish at Homestead last year was the beginning of our 2007 season," Stremme said. "That's how we looked at it and that's what we've tried to carry into this year."

Despite the good beginning, however, Stremme thinks he could be in an even better spot.

"We should be sitting with two top-10 finishes right now," he said. "We got caught a lap down last week running with the top 10 guys all day. We just couldn't ever get a break. We wanted to start 2007 where we left off in 2006 and that's what we're doing. It's still early. Points are up and down. California was a bad race for us last year in both races. We come back and have a bad day of 19th. We'll take that. We have room for improvement, but we're more competitive."

Like most everyone else on the circuit, Stremme spent his off week in Bristol testing the "Car of Tomorrow."

"A lot of us are playing catch up, and I think the 'COT' puts us on a level playing field," he said. "I think whatever teams work well together here and communicates well together will accomplish their goals. I'm a racer. I'll race anything."

And Stremme can't wait to get back on track to keep his roll going.

"Yes, we had a good test at Vegas and we're racing the same Charger we raced at California," he said. "They're getting it ready as we speak. It was very comfortable in the test there."
