Camping World, based in Bowling Green, Ky., is the world’s largest supplier of RV accessories and camping equipment with over 65 retail outlets in key regional locations.
The multi-team program will include Scott Wimmer in the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet Monte Carlo at the March 18 Kobalt Tools 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event at Atlanta Motor Speedway; Clint Bowyer in the No. 07 Camping World Chevrolet at NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series events at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon, N.H. (July 1) and Pocono (Pa.) Raceway (Aug. 5); and Bowyer in the No. 2 Camping World Chevrolet in the NASCAR Busch Series races at Phoenix International Raceway (April 20), Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway (April 28), the Camping World 200 at New Hampshire International Speedway (June 30) in Loudon, N.H., and Chicagoland Speedway (July 14).
"This new association with Richard Childress Racing represents a valuable opportunity for Camping World and its participating vendors," said Marcus Lemonis, Camping World President and CEO. "It not only adds important markets to our racing calendar in both the Cup and the Busch Series, it also allows us to become part of RCR’s impressive family of marketing partners."
Wimmer’s 2007 NEXTEL Cup Series debut at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend will also be RCR’s debut of Chevrolet’s new generation engine, the R07. RCR will be the first team in the NEXTEL Cup Series to utilize Chevrolet’s new engine.
"This sponsorship program has given RCR and Camping World a unique opportunity to build on primary sponsorships with both our NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series teams," said Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. "RVers make up a big part of the NASCAR fan-base who attends events all around the country. That gives Camping World a direct connection to the thousands of dedicated race fans who travel countless miles to attend NASCAR races from Northern California all the way to South Florida."
In addition to the expansion of its NASCAR program, Camping World is expanding its retail presence in the United States. The company anticipates adding 15-20 new stores in 2007 and have a total of 100 by 2008. The brisk expansion of Camping World is well timed to respond to growing consumer demand as the outlook for the RV and RV supplies and accessories market burgeons, topping lists of US growth industries. A recent study by the University of Michigan's Survey Research Center found that one in 12 U.S. vehicle-owning households now own an RV. There are now 7.9 million households in the U.S. with an RV. This figure indicates a 58 percent rise in RV ownership since 1980. This study also anticipates similar growth in the future, thus providing the catalyst for additional Camping World stores across the country.
