Daytona 50Th Goes Gold

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Although the 2007 Daytona 500 is yet to run, Daytona International Speedway President Robin Braig took time on Saturday to remind motorsports writers that the 2008 running of the “Great American Race” will be a landmark.

“We’re excited that on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, almost a year from today, we will be getting ready for a milestone in the history of motorsports – the 50th running of the Daytona 500.”

Before a packed infield media center, Braig took time to outline the Speedway’s and International Speedway Corporation’s plans for the event.

Unveiling a gold version of the Daytona 500 Harley J. Earl Trophy and the 2008 logo, Braig noted “the 50th running provides us with an opportunity to strengthen the Daytona 500 brand – which ranks 4th on Forbes annual Most Valuable Sporting Event Brands – even more.

Some of the highlights Braig touched on included:

· ISC will execute a major marketing and PR campaign to leverage this important milestone to reach traditional and non-traditional audiences

· Promotional platforms have been built and will be activated by DIS and ISC corporate partners including Gatorade and Kroger.

· There will be a robust licensing program with multiple product lines that will be distributed at mass merchants, specialty stores, trackside and through exclusive partner offers

· You will see this historic event integrated into the ISC portfolio including Internet; MRN Radio; all ISC tracks; and NEXTEL Vision throughout the next 12 months

· There are special marketing and media events planned to build awareness of this milestone that our partners and fans will be able to be a part of.

“We’re very excited and are looking forward to this historic Daytona 500,” Braig added.
