RacingOne continues our look at the must see NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race shops to visit while in North Carolina this week with a trip to Richard Childress Racing.

Richard Childress Racing is located approximately one hour north of Charlotte in Welcome, North Carolina.

The NASCAR NEXTEL Cup shop, which opened in May 2002, is the largest of more than 10 buildings on the RCR complex property at 86,000 square feet.

When race fans visit the shop they are first greeted by a lobby with trophies, uniforms and the show cars of RCR drivers Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton and Kevin Harvick.

Visitors can get an up close look at the race preparation for all three teams, by heading upstairs onto the RCR Fan Walk. From there, the transporter bay and the main shop area for the No. 29, 07 and 31 Chevrolets can be seen through floor to ceiling windows in two long hallways.

Down the street from the Cup shop is the home of the championship-winning No. 2 and No. 21 NASCAR Busch Series teams. Visitors are able to get a close up view of the Busch garage, which used to house the Cup teams, from a roped off section directly inside of the shop.

Hours of operation for both the Cup and Busch shop are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Be sure to check back next week as we tour the biggest attraction on the RCR property – The RCR Museum and gift shop.

In addition to the race shops, visitors can travel 5 miles south to visit Childress Vineyards for a taste of some of the finest wines in the country. The Vineyards, which is located of U.S. 64, is planted on 65 acres just west of Lexington.

Further information on the race shops at RCR, including directions and contact info is located below.
