Moving On

There isn’t much I can say about Talladega last weekend. I think all the race fans saw with their own eyes what happened.

All I can add is that we had a car that could, probably should have won the race and we were taken out from behind on the final lap. It was disappointing not to get the win and we lost a heck of a chance to get back into the points race. It was another missed opportunity. In the first four races of the “Chase” this season it seems like something weird has happened to us every race. I take comfort in how fast we have been and eventually that’s going to show in the results.

But in this business you don’t have a lot of time to dwell on win or disappointments. On Monday I will test the Car of Tomorrow at Talladega. I have only had a few laps earlier this year so I am really interested in seeing how this car works. Next year is going to a very interesting year. It seems like all of us are going to be starting from scratch when it comes to chassis, setups, and making the cars go faster.

After the test we head to Lowe’s Motor Speedway for qualifying on Thursday. We kind of think of Lowe’s as our house and I expect us to run as well as we did at Talladega, Kansas and Dover. If we do then we can take a big chunk out of that point’s deficit and get back in this thing. We don’t have to worry about devising a lot of strategy. It’s going to be win the pole, lead the most laps and win the race.

It’s going to be a busy weekend. We are running the Busch car in Friday night’s Busch race. It’s always fun to run the Busch car and I think I would drive a Bandolero car if I got a chance to race at Lowe’s. That’s how much I like this place. So as bummed as we are today we will turn our attention to a place that has been very good to us over the years and when they open the garage Thursday morning we’ll walk in with smiles on our face and ready to get back after it.
