Pruett Can Do It

Scott Pruett capped off a busy weekend at Watkins Glen International Raceway with the best finish of the road course "ringers" in Sunday's AMD at the Glen NEXTEL Cup Series race.

After winning Friday's Grand American Road Racing Series race at The Glen with teammate Luis Diaz, Pruett was pumped about his shot at driving the Chip Ganassi Racing No. 40 Dodge Sunday, filling in for David Stremme.

"The goal for the 40 car is just to keep our nose clean, qualify well, and get the team the points it needs to keep their momentum going,” Pruett said after his Friday win.

Mission accomplished.

After qualifying 13th, Pruett stayed out of the record number of cautions on Sunday and ran with the lead pack much of the day.

When the checkered flag flew, Pruett had a sixth place finish, ahead of several of his road racing colleagues who experienced trouble along the way.

"That was a lot of fun," Pruett said afterward. "It's a big challenge going from one of those Daytona Prototype sports cars to these big heavy NEXTEL Cup cars. But the team gave me a great car today and we had outstanding pit stops. All in all it added up to a fun and successful day."

The finish especially helped the No. 40 team as it stayed in the Top 35 in NEXTEL Cup Series owners' points, locking Stremme into this Sunday's GFS Marketplace 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
