Solid Day For Sorenson

It's appropriate that Reed Sorenson carries a bulls-eye on his car from sponsor Target. Because on Sunday, the impressive NEXTEL Cup Series rookie class was shooting for the freshman driver.

Sorenson turned in an impressive performance in Sunday's USG Sheetrock 400 at Chicagoland Speedway. He ran consistently in the Top 10 and led six laps on his way to his fourth Top 10 finish of the season.

"We ran well today," Sorenson said. "he car was solid all day. I don’t think we ever really ran outside of the top 10 most of the race. We ran in the top five a little bit and this is probably one of the best cars we’ve had all season."

After finished fifth at Michigan International Speedway in mid-June, Sorenson struggled the next two weeks at Infineon Raceway and Daytona, where he came away with 29th and 34th place finishes. The Chicago turnaround was the confidence-builder Sorenson and the Target team needed.

“The last two weeks have been tough on the Target team and we’ve dropped a few positions in the points," Sorenson said. "The next stretch of races should be good though and hopefully we can get ourselves back into the top 20 and shoot for a top-15 finish before the end of the season. I know this team is capable of doing so, we just need to catch a few breaks."

"We’ve had some bad luck this year, but today we finally got the finish we deserved," Sorenson said. "y hats of to the guys on the Target team and everyone at Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates for building such a great race car."
