Racingone Power Rankings

The latest edition of the RacingOne NEXTEL Cup Series Power Rankings as the series heads to the USG Sheetrock 400 at Chicagoland Speedway this weekend, which features NASCAR's new comprehensive statistical ratings system using a detailed formula to calculate each driver's performance.

Editor's Note: Top 10 rankings are generated by a formula combining the following categories: Win, Finish, Top-15 Finish, Average Running Position While on Lead Lap, Average Speed Under Green, Fastest Lap, Led Most Laps, Lead-Lap Finish. Maximum: 150 points per race.

1. Matt Kenseth (Last week's ranking: 2nd)
Nice showing on Saturday night in Daytona, now would love to bring home a win this weekend in Chicagoland and thrill many of his homestate Wisconsin fans who will be in the stands.

2. Greg Biffle (Last week's ranking: 1st)
Late race accident at Daytona handed him a 31st place finish. Maybe they should have kept the car sold to Boris Said?

3. Jimmie Johnson (Last week's ranking: 3rd)
Two incidents at Daytona dealt the 500 winner a 32nd and the lead in the standings has shrunk down to a mere eight over Kenseth.

4. Tony Stewart (Last week's ranking: 4th)
Made a statement Saturday night to all those who wrote him off for the struggles of the previous month and comes into Chicagoland with a major head of steam.

5. Jeff Gordon (Last week's ranking: 6th)
So much for the good karma of Sonoma spilling over to Daytona after the No. 24 ended its day on the wrecker.

6. Mark Martin (Last week's ranking: 7th)
Only one more plate race in his Cup career after yet another mess of a night at Daytona.

7. Kasey Kahne (Last week's ranking: 5th
Chicagoland's 1.5-mile track may be just the tonic to turn Kahne around after a couple of sour weekends.

8. Jeff Burton (Last week's ranking: 8th)
Came back from early race trouble to finish 15th at Daytona and stay firmly in the hunt to make the "Chase."

9. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (Last week's ranking: 9th
Junior comes to Chicagoland as the defending race winner, about the only highlight of his dismal 2005 season.

10. Kurt Busch (Last week's ranking: 10th)
Big turnaround from his previous two Daytona starts Saturday night with a third and maybe a little confidence coming to Chicagoland, home of his beloved (and wretched) Cubs.
