Weekend Flip For Edwards

Carl Edwards' weekend was definitely a tale of two races.

Things got off to a sour start on Saturday night when Edwards suffered transmission problems when the green flag flew at the Busch Series Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway.

“We had trouble early with the transmission," Edwards said. "I want to thank everybody on the track for doing a great job of not running over me out there. We could never get back 26 laps down."

Edwards wound up finishing 36th but lost 100 points in the standings to leader Kevin Harvick, although he did hold on to the second spot.

Despite the dismal Saturday night, Edwards found reason to celebrate on Sunday at Michigan International Speedway.

After starting 31st, Edwards was able to work his way to the front of the field in his Office Depot No. 99 Ford.

He moved around Reed Sorenson for second place late in the race and set his sights on leader and eventual winner Kasey Kahne, but when rain showers his on lap 129, the race ended and Edwards shot at victory was washed away.

However his second place finish was thebest of the season for Edwards and it continued his string of Top 10 finishes at Michigan.

"We had a great race," said Edwards afterwards. "The Office Depot Ford was really good, and my pit crew rebounded this week with great pit stops. I guess Kasey beat us out by about a foot, so congratulations to him. They did a great job. It’s a good points day, but I want to get that first win for Wally and all the guys. It was just a fun race and we just ended up second, which was a good solid run for the Office Depot Team."

Edwards is 13th in the NEXTEL Cup Series point standings and trails Roush racing teammate Greg Biffle by 85 points for the tenth position.
