Mcmurray On The Move

It wasn't a win, but for Jamie McMurray it was still a victory of the moral variety.

After struggling through the first three months of the season, McMurray is finally showing the success many predicted when he joined Roush Racing this year.

His runner-up finish to teammate Matt Kenseth in Sunday's Neighborhood Excellence 400 at Dover International Speedway was his second straight Top 10 finish.

The chemistry between McMurray and new crew chief Bob Osborne looks to be taking hold.

"It’s my lucky day, yesterday was my 30th birthday and today I led a bunch of laps and Bob and the crew were on the money for pit strategy and stops," McMurray said after Sunday's race. "He (Bob) is super intelligent; I have confidence in his decisions. To compete for a win is a big deal. I am fortunate to have him."

McMurray had his Irwin Tools Ford in front down the stretch and looked like he was headed for his first win of the season. But teammate Kenseth was closing fast in the late going and once he got around Kevin Harvick for second, ran down McMurray for the lead - and the win.

"It's been a long time," McMurray said, who hasn't won a NEXTEL Cup race since October of 2002. "I thought I had him."

Since joining Roush this year, McMurray has been the struggling member of the five car team.

"It's very disappointing and very frustrating to have four teammates who have shots to win almost single week and you can't make it work," he said.

But after solid runs at Charlotte and Dover, McMurray's fortunes may be changing.

Car owner Jack Roush was pleased with the effort on Sunday.

"What about Jamie McMurray? Was that not awesome today?" Roush said. "Jamie was certainly the underdog given the season he's had. Until Matt had passed Jamie, I was standing beside Bob Osborne in the 26 pit rooting for him as hard as I could."

At least McMurray knows he has the boss on his side.
