Rain Out In Bristol

BRISTOL, Tenn. - Persistent showers forced NASCAR officials to cancel Friday's scheduled NEXTEL Cup qualifying session for the Food City 500 and the field will be lined-up based on 2005 owners' points.

With temperatures expected to fall into the low 30s and the possibility of snow overnight, NASCAR pulled the plug on Friday's activities at 3:45 p.m.

The NEXTEL Cup Series will practice Saturday morning as will the Busch Series, in preparation for its qualifying session and 3:10 p.m. scheduled start time for the Sharpie Mini 300.

However Saturday's weather doesn't appear to be much of an improvement with a 70 percent chance of rain and temperatures near 40 predicted.

With 50 cars in the garage area, seven were sent home when the starting line-up was formulated. The top 35 in 2005 owners' points were locked into the field.

The unlucky seven that will miss Sunday's race were Chad Chaffin, Kenny Wallace, Mike Garvey, Mike Skinner, Morgan Shepherd, Chad Blount and Derrike Cope.
