Raceday: Bristol

He'll be making his first Bristol Cup Series start for someone other than car owner Jack Roush.

But don't count Kurt Busch out by any means.

Busch brings his four career Bristol Cup wins to the Miller Lite Dodge, which has seen its share of success over the years at the half-mile track.

Rusty Wallace racked up nine career Bristol wins, four coming behind-the-wheel of the No. 2, a record Busch hopes to add to Sunday.

Busch notched his first Bristol win in 2002 and then came back to rattle off three straight in 2003-2004. He has seven Top 10 finishes in only ten career starts, but things didn't always go so well for the 2003 series champion at the tough concrete oval, particularly his 2001 debut.

"It wasn't pretty," Busch said with a laugh. "As a matter of fact, it was downright ugly. The first time I crashed that day, it was on my on. The second time I wrecked, I was in a big pileup. I guess you could say that the third time was the charm, in that we punctured the radiator in that crash."

"That put us out for good. They just kept on fixing it and putting me back out there to get track time. When we were finally done for the day, I looked up on the board and there were still about 400 laps of racing left. They didn't have the tunnel down in the third turn at the time, so I was forced to sit there and watch all the others go at it for another three hours."

With Sunday's starting line-up determined by last year's owners' points, due to qualifying being scratched by weather on Friday, Busch will roll off ninth.

PISTONE'S PISTONS
The weather forecast for Sunday is for temperatures to reach the mid-40s with only a 30 percent chance of rain/snow showers....Kyle Busch may scale back his full season Busch Series efforts despite his win Saturday in Bristol...Former Richmond Int'l Raceway public relations director Robert Kenneth Campbell died Friday after a long illness at the age of 83....Monday's scheduled "Car of Tomorrow" test at Bristol is still set. The new car will make its official debut in next spring's Bristol race and teams will be given rulebooks later this week.
