Harvick Fueled By Rumors

Despite all the whirlwind rumors that are flying around regarding GM Goodwrench driver Kevin Harvick’s future at Richard Childress Racing, the Bakersfield Calif., native heads to Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend in need of a strong run to prove that RCR is on their way to reclaiming their elite status with their GM Goodwrench team.

The timetable has been set for April for Harvick and Richard Childress to regroup and evaluate the direction of their program. Hopefully, the No. 29 GM Goodwrench team can put it all together this weekend during Sunday’s running of the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 to let everyone know they have done their homework and are headed back to their winning ways.

“We’ve kind of agreed to sit down in April and evaluate where things are,” said Harvick. “I’m not going to rush into things and do things I don’t want to do. I think right now we are in the same frame of mind about our goals, and our goals are to go out and get the season going on a good note and make the Chase. All the rest of it, the paper stuff, is something that’s not high on the list right now.”

Harvick left California Speedway two weekends ago disappointed in their team’s 29th place finish and now heads to the first intermediate track of the year. The downforce tracks, the 1.5-mile ovals specifically, were where the No. 29 team struggled in 2005, particularly in the season’s latter half. Harvick said those type of tracks are still a concern, but he expects the team to be much better.

“I think when we get to Atlanta we’ll see that we’ve made some improvements,” added Harvick.
