Icountdown To Daytona:/I 47 Days

RacingOne counts down the days to the 2006 Daytona 500 with a look back at some of the history throughout the years thanks to Motorsports Images and Archives.

Today we remember Sterling Marlin's second 500 victory in the 1995 running of the classic.

Marlin became the first driver to win back-to-back since Cale Yarborough after holding off Dale Earnhardt, who had fresh tires, by 0.61 seconds at the finish line.

Marlin started third, led 105 laps and averaged 141.71 mph in the race - his third of eight races at Daytona behind the wheel of the No. 4 Kodak Chevrolet for owner Larry McClure. In those eight races he posted an average finish of 10.1, including his last win at the speedway coming in the 1996 Pepsi 400.

This year will mark Marlin's 48th start at Daytona and first with MB2 Motorsports. He has collected $4,017,821 in earnings and has led 589 laps at the speedway.
