Taking Stock

Share:
This morning in New York City started fairly early with a trip to the New York Stock Exchange. Last year, the 10 of us, along with Donald Trump, opened the day at NASDAQ. This year, NASCAR moved us to the NYSE to ring the opening bell. Myself and the other nine drivers, I believe, had a great time and the NYSE gave us all large coins with the date engraved as well as the reason we were there. The back of the coin has a shot of the NYSE and a large bull. It's a pretty cool souvenir.

From there we spent about 45 minutes on a bus fighting our way through the City traffic to Cipriani's. Cipriani's is a very large banquet hall that NASCAR holds it's Media Luncheon in. During the luncheon, we eat (of course), but NASCAR, as well as Sprint (NEXTEL) hold basically a "state-of-the-union" address where they tell the drivers, media and the other guests about the season past and the outlook on the one about to begin. Brian France, NASCAR's CEO, called me out during his speech on my 360 burn out on Madison Avenue yesterday. Apparently, it's gotten some pretty good press. So, I guess I'm not going to get into any trouble for it.

Following the speeches, we broke off into one-on-one interviews with the media in attendance. They asked a lot of questions about mine and Krissie's plans for the off-season, as well as questions about Penske Racing South and my new teammate, Kurt Busch. Kurt and I have got to spend some time together this week in New York City during all of our appearances. Without a doubt, I look forward to working with him next season.

Right now, I'm enjoying a 30 minute break before our next appearance. This evening we're visiting the Ronald McDonald House in New York City. Last year I played video games and raced slot cars with the children. This year, I'm planning on visiting those children who are unable to leave their rooms to enjoy the festivities down stairs. It should be an enlightening and rewarding experience.

Tomorrow morning, I'll join my crew chief, Matt Borland, for the Meyer Brothers Breakfast where we'll receive a few contingency awards. Tomorrow night we'll cap off the week with the 2005 NNCS Awards Banquet.
