Kvapil Out Of Picture

Despite recent denials, Penske racing will shut down its No. 77 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series team.

Sources report that sponsor Kodak will not renew with the operation, forcing Penske to scale back to a two car team of Ryan Newman and newcomer Kurt Busch in 2006.

The move effectively makes former Craftsman Truck Series champion Travis Kvapil a free agent after spending his rookie Cup season behind-the-wheel of the No. 77 this year.

The Wisconsin driver wound-up 33rd in points this season and posted two Top 10 finishes.

Several members of the No. 77 team have been appointed to the Newman and Busch groups.
