Impound Rule Limited

NASCAR hasn't totally erased the impound rule for the 2006 season but it will drastically reduced as only five NEXTEL Cup races will feature the controversial practice of impounding cars after qualifying until race time.

Teams received a memo stating that both Talladega races, both Richmond races and the Pepsi 400 at Daytona in July would be impound events in 2006.

That leaves the remaining 31 points events to follow the "traditional" race weekend format, which most times includes a full day of practice and qualifying on Friday with a final "Happy Hour" practice session on Saturdays.
