Inotebook:/I MIS Schedule Set

BROOKLYN, Mich. - Michigan International Speedway President Brett Shelton unveiled the track's 2006 schedule Saturday, which will be identical to 2005.

MIS will once again host the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series in June and August with the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series appearing with NASCAR's top series in June and the NASCAR Busch Series in August. The ARCA RE/MAX Series will once again make two stops at MIS as a Friday attraction during the June and August weekends.

Additionally, the IRL IndyCar Series will return for the July 29-30 weekend.

"Our new schedule in 2005 was a great hit with fans and very successful overall," said Shelton. "We gave fans more racing this season and we are excited to offer the same in 2006."

The complete NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series schedules are expected to be released in a few weeks.

It doesn't appear Jamie McMurray will be racing anywhere but at Chip Ganassi Racing in the near future. McMurray seems resigned to the fact he will be forced to drive out his contract with Ganassi and co-owner Felix Sabates through 2006, rather than making an early exit to join Roush Racing before 2007.

"I'd like to see Chip (Ganassi), Jack (Roush) and Roger (Penske) get in a room and work everything out," McMurray said. "That would be great, but I don't think that's going to happen," said McMurray.

"I don't think what happens to Kurt is going to affect me," McMurray said. "It's just odd we're kind of going through the same thing."

Roush mentioned this week he would consider releasing Busch from his contract early so he can take over Penske South's No. 2 Dodge, but nothing has been decided.

Ward Burton has been rumored to be the driver the new Hall of Fame Racing Team, co-owned by former NFL stars Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach, is considering for its start-up NEXTEL Cup team in 2006. Texas Instruments has signed on to sponsor the new effort, but the team has no garage, crew chief, driver or other personnel at this point. Additional announcements are expected at the November 6th race weekend at Texas Motor Speedway.
