Busch Looks For Three-Peat

If indeed good things do come in threes, count Kurt Busch in.

The defending NEXTEL Cup champ looks to extend his New Hampshire International Speedway winning streak to three straight wins in Sunday's New England 300. Busch swept both Cup races at "The Magic Mile" last season and is anxious to get back to the track where he's had great success during his career.

“We’re definitely gonna go for three in a row," Busch said. "The main objective, obviously, is to see how this new tire and spoiler combination feels when we’re there in July, so we know what to do in September. It’s very important to get off to a good start in The Chase because you can bump up from ninth to first in one week."

Busch knows how important it is to build momentum during the mid point of the season as the circuit races toward the "Chase."

"Hopefully, we’re in a better position this year," Busch said. "I think we went in there seventh last year and I think we can be a little bit better off and just get that strong run rolling for September. We’d love to go there and make it three in a row and then we definitely have to focus on the bigger picture when we go back there in September."

Busch cracked his way back into the Top 10 last week with his eighth place run at Chicagoland Speedway. Busch is 10th the point standings, but only 58 points behind fifth-place Elliott Sadler.

And as the circuit works its way through a challenging stretch of the season - going from a road course to a restrictor plate track to a 1.5-mile superspeedway and now a flat one mile track like Loudon - Busch is feeling confident about his chances to continue his climb.

"I like the variety," he said. "I liked when we used to go from Martinsville to Talladega—the smallest track to the biggest track—and then we’ve got road courses, speedways, mile-and-a-halves, and then a short track like Loudon. You just have to adapt to each one of them differently, because they all demand something different from the driver."
