Stremme Up To Cup

BROOKLYN, Mich. - The speculation was finally made official Sunday morning as the Chip Ganassi Racing Team announced that Busch Series driver David Stremme will take over the team's No. 40 Dodge on next season's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series.

As expected, Stremme will replace veteran driver Sterling Marlin in Ganassi's Dodge Charger next year with sponsorship split beteween Coors Light and Lone Star Steakhouse.

The plans for the rest of Ganassi's 2006 team line-up remain unknown. Jamie McMurray is under contract with the team and appears to be on track to return in the No. 42 Texaco Havoline Dodge.

Casey Mears has been told by Ganassi that "he is in the plan" for next year, but does not know the details. Mears pilots the team's No. 41 Target Dodge. Speculation has Ganassi moving Mears to his struggling Indy Racing League team.

Busch Series rookie phenom Reed Sorenson has also been mentioned as either a possible replacemrnt for Mears or in a fourth Ganassi Cup entry in 2006.
