Johnson Draws Blame

What was supposed to be a relatively quiet day of testing at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Tuesday turned into a raging controversy.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. pointed a finger directly toward Jimmie Johnson as the catalyst for Sunday's 25-car pile-up in the Aaron's 499 at Talladega Superspeedway.

"If there was one idiot out there it was him,"' Earnhardt said. "To be honest about it, I think Jimmie Johnson caused about all the wrecks out there."

Johnson and Earnhardt, Jr. were at the center of both "Big Ones" Sunday at Talladega - the 25-car melee and the seven car incident with three laps to go that knocked both from the race.

Earlier in Tuesday's test session, Greg Biffle blamed Johnson for starting Sunday's final wreck.

"I hate to point fingers, but if (Johnson) hadn't been in the race, we wouldn't have had those wrecks," Biffle said. "I've seen both replays and I don't care what anyone says. I like Jimmie. He's a talented driver. But he caused both wrecks.

"Bump drafting had nothing to do with it. Restrictor plates had nothing to do with it. It was orientation to where you are on the racetrack and where the other cars are."

Johnson has been in the eye of the storm more often than not in recent weeks. Two races ago, he and Tony Stewart tangled during the Subway Fresh 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. Although they have since said everything was fine between them, the two drivers exchanged harsh words following that accident.

"I don't know what he was doing," Stewart said after the Phoenix race. "He was running guys up and down the racetrack."

Johnson defended himself on Tuesday and gave his explanation of Sunday's Talladega accidents.

"Everybody wants to put blame somewhere, it's just the way that everyone works," Johnson said. "When you crash, they show a replay while they're interviewing you so that you can place blame. It seems to be the new thing right now.

"Everybody wants answers as to why there's big wrecks. I think that our wreck on Sunday was a racing incident. You're an inch and a half apart from one another. Cars bouncing all over, they're hard to drive, and it's hard to place blame."
