Homecoming For Hamilton Jr

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - NASCAR Nextel Cup driver, Bobby Hamilton, Jr. is planning to compete at least seven times at Nashville's Music City Motorplex this season in hopes of claiming a championship at the historic Speedway at the Tennessee State Fair Grounds.

On Sunday, July 3rd and Friday, July 29th, Hamilton will participate in NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series events. On five Sundays, Hamilton will go for the championship in the new for 2005 All American Late Model Challenge. The All American Late Model Challenge will feature a total of six Sunday events, April 24, May 8, May 22, June 12 and July 31, with the Championship decided on Sunday, October 16th.

Even though Hamilton will only compete in five of the six All American Late Model events, he is determined to claim a championship at this, his hometown track.

"I'm planning on being here for every event except June 12, and I'm still going to win this championship!" Hamilton, Jr. said. "This will be fun, racing in my backyard against some of the best short track drivers there are in the country. I want to win a Nashville Guitar of my own! I'm going for two championships this year, the NASCAR Nextel Cup and the All American Late Model Challenge at the Music City Motorplex," Hamilton concluded.

The cars that will be eligible to compete in the six-race All American Late Model Challenge series are the same type of cars that can be found at short tracks throughout the South, including Tennessee, Kentucky, and Alabama, and are similar to the cars that participate in the historic All American 400 here in Nashville. In addition to the Nashville Guitar trophy for the Champions, the top six in points of the All American Late Model Challenge, will be earn guaranteed starting positions in the All American 400, scheduled for November 6th.

Track officials expect tremendous local and regional response to the series. With the simple 'outlaw type' rules, most Late Model competitors in the mid-south will be able to compete. Using a common race tire and base weights for engine combination, drivers will be able to compete with minor, if any, changes to their weekly track setups. Rules for the All American Super Lates will be posted on the Music City Motorplex website in the near future.

"The series is for the many late model type cars from throughout the area using simple rules. Scheduling these races on non-conflicting Sunday dates will allow competitors will be able to run the big track here at the Fairgrounds", Music City Motorplex President Joe Mattioli said. "Giving these competitors the chance to test their metal against a NASCAR Nextel Cup star like Bobby Jr. will be incredible."

The All American Late Model events will be held Nashville's 18 degree, five-eighths mile track located at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds as part of the Sunday Family Days beginning on Sunday, April 24.

Hamilton, Jr. completed his most successful racing season ever in 2003, winning four NASCAR Busch Series races and finishing fourth in the season long Busch Series Championship. In 2004, Hamilton joined PPI Motorsports mid-season as the driver for the No. 32 Tide Chevrolet on the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series and is signed to drive for the team full-time starting with the 2005 season. He competed for his third consecutive year in the No. 25 Team Marines car for Team Rensi Motorsports until August, and drove a few races in Phoenix Racing's No. 09 car in the Cup Series before switching over to PPI Motorsports. In the Busch Series, he scored one pole position at Chicagoland Speedway. Starting with the second California Speedway race, competed in every Cup race in the No. 32 car for PPI Motorsports with the exception of New Hampshire.

Music City Motorplex's Sunday Family Fun Day gears up April 3, 2005 with six divisions competing on the quarter-mile track. The popular Tennessee Street Outlaws, Junior FrontRunners and Legends Cars will be among the featured classes, with Bandeleros making their debut in 2005. The Bandoleros series is a spec car series with competitors as young as eight-years-old competing.
