He finished first there in April extending his streak of three top-10 finishes at Talladega. He finished fifth in this race one year ago. Gordon has led in 18 of his 23 races at Talladega.

2. Kurt Busch finished fifth in the MBNA America 400 at Dover International Speedway and remained second in the NASCAR Nextel Cup point standings, just one point behind first-place Jeff Gordon. Busch has scored three victories and 14 top-10 finishes in 2004. It was his eighth top-15 finish in the last eight races. Busch is the only driver to score top-five finishes in the first two races of The Chase. He has competed in seven races at Talladega Superspeedway scoring four top-10 finishes. 3. Dale Earnhardt Jr., finished ninth in the MBNA America 400 at Dover International Speedway, scoring his 17th top-10 finish in 2004, second only to Jeff Gordon, who has 20. 4. Jimmie Johnson finished 10th in the MBNA America 400 at Dover International Speedway and climbed from fifth to fourth in the NASCAR Nextel Cup point standings. It was his fourth top-15 finish in his last five races. Johnson has scored four victories and 15 top-five finishes this season, two more top fives than any other driver. He is just 57 points behind first-place Jeff Gordon. Johnson has competed in five races Talladega Superspeedway, scoring two top-10 finishes. Johnson has a 19.4 average finish at Talladega because of two DNFS. Johnson finished 34th in this race one year ago and fourth there in June, his best Talladega finish.

5. Mark Martin finished second in the MBNA America 400 at Dover International Speedway and climbed from seventh to fifth in the NASCAR Nextel Cup point standings. He also has 4,314 points as fourth-place Johnson. Johnson gets the fourth-place position because of the tie breaker (wins). Martin has climbed from 15th to fifth in the seven races since Indianapolis. Martin has scored one victory and 13 top-10 finishes in 2004 He has scored seven top-15 finishes in his last seven races. Martin is 57 points behind first-place Jeff Gordon. He has competed in 37 races at Talladega Superspeedway scoring two victories and 21 top-10 finishes. Martin has led in 20 races and has a 14.0 average finish at Talladega. He finished 23rd in this race one year ago and sixth there in April.

6. Elliott Sadler finished 20th in the MBNA America 400 at Dover International Speedway and remained sixth in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Top 10. Sadler has scored two victories and 12 top-10 finishes in 2004. He is 96 points behind first-place Jeff Gordon. Sadler has competed in 10 races at Talladega Superspeedway and has scored just one top-10 finish there. Sadler has a 28.3 average finish at Talladega. He finished 30th in this race one year ago and 28th there in April. Sadler has had three DNFs at Talladega Superspeedway.

7. Matt Kenseth finished 32nd in the MBNA America 400 at Dover International Speedway. He has scored two victories and 12 top-10 finishes in 2004. Newman is 107 points behind first-place Jeff Gordon. He has competed in five races at Talladega Superspeedway, posting two top-10 finishes. Newman has a 20.8 average finish at Talladega. He finished fourth in this race one year ago and 11th there in April. Newman also has two DNFs at Talladega Superspeedway.

9. Tony Stewart finished sixth in the MBNA America 400 at Dover International Speedway and dropped from eighth to ninth in the NASCAR Nextel Cup point standings.
