Blaney Back For Three Races

CONCORD, N.C. - Roush Racing announced today that Dave Blaney will drive the No. 99 Roush Racing Ford in the upcoming Dover, Talladega and Charlotte Nextel Cup races due to scheduling conflicts with the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Meanwhile, Carl Edwards will pilot the No. 99 Superchips F-150 at Las Vegas, Fontana and Texas in his quest to win the Truck Series Championship.

"I am honored to drive for Roush Racing," said Blaney. "Roush Racing is a high visibility race team and has had success at all types of tracks. I will do my best to run up front at all three of these races for Roush Racing and the No. 99 team. I'm hopeful that by doing this, other car owners will take note and see that I am available to drive for them."

Of the 10 remaining Nextel Cup races Edwards will race the other seven. However, just 76 points out of first, his commitment to winning a Truck Championship remains strong.

"I would love to be able to drive both the No. 99 Truck and No. 99 Cup car those three weekends," said Edwards. "However, I need to also focus on winning the Truck Series Championship with the No. 99 Superchips team and right now that has to be the priority. We weighed all our options and looked at both schedules and the travel demands placed on me were a lot. Dave is a great race car driver and I know he'll do a good job in the No. 99 Ford in my absence for those three races."

Roush Racing president Geoff Smith said, "This is a good addition to the No. 99 team, it will keep the team working and help progress the program" Blaney, a Hartford, OH native, began racing at the age of 14 when he started in go-karts. From there he progressed, eventually spending 12 years on the World of Outlaw (WoO) circuit, winning the WoO Championship in 1995. Blaney has spent the last six years racing on the NASCAR circuit and is looking for his first career Nextel Cup win.
