Riggs Feeling At Home

As preseason testing concluded Thursday Scott Riggs felt the three-day session at Daytona International Speedway proved to be a valuable experience for the Valvoline Nextel Cup race team.

"This was basically our first time together and we learned a lot about each other," said Riggs. "We would have liked to run faster in testing, but when I look at the big picture I really feel upbeat about how this Valvoline team has come together in a short time."

Riggs, one of six rookies who will be competing in NASCAR's elite series, said the team will go back to the shop in Concord, N.C. to find more speed for the No. 10 Valvoline Chevrolet.

"We still have some tweaking to do before we come back for the Daytona 500 (Feb. 15)," explained Riggs. "The guys know what they have to do and I have all of the confidence in them.

"This is an exciting time for all of us – just thinking about the Daytona 500 is an awesome feeling. It's the biggest and most prestigious race and we want to come out of the gate with a strong statement."

In Thursday's test session, the No. 10 team worked on a number of combinations in qualifying trim and later in the day tested the Valvoline car in race trim on the 2.5-mile superspeedway.
