Skinner Marches To Pole
September 5, 2003 | 4:31 P.M. EST
Skinner wrecked his U.S. Army Pontiac in Friday morning's practice session and was forced to use the team's second car. But the veteran was able to put the backup to good use and sped to his sixth career NAScAR Winston Cup Series pole.
Greg Biffle qualified the Grainger Ford second quickest and will join Skinner on Saturday night's front row. Mark Martin, Ryan Newman and Jeff Gordon completed the Top 5 qualifiers.
Sterling Marlin, Jeff Burton, Ward Burton, Johnny Benson and Kyle Petty rounded out the first ten.
Dale Jarrett, Dave Blaney, Steve Park, Jason Leffler, Christian Fittipaldi, Mike Wallace and Hermie Sadler used provisionals to make the 43-car field.
Larry Foyt and Billy Bigley did not make the race.
Saturday night's Chevy Rock and Roll 400 will take the green flag at 7:30 p.m. (ET).
