Seventh Heaven For Newman

Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Sterling Marlin and Jeremy Mayfield completed the first ten qualifiers.

Provisional starts went to Bobby Labonte, Kenny Wallace, Steve Park, Kyle Petty, Jason Leffler, Tony Raines and Christian Fittipaldi.

Four drivers failed to make the race - Derrike Cope, Larry Foyt, Morgan Shepherd and Carl Long.
