Twice As Nice

BROOKLYN, MICH. - Bobby Labonte made it a sweep of Winston Cup qualifying at Michigan International Speedway in 2003 on Friday with a pole run of 190.240 mph to claim the top spot for Sunday's GFS Marketplace 400.

Labonte drove his Joe Gibbs Racing Interstate Batteries Chevrolet to his second Bud Pole Award of the season and fourth career at MIS. He became the first driver to sweep both poles at Michigan since Bill Elliott turned the trick in 1988.

Ryan Newman qualified second fastest and will start the ALLTEL Dodge outside the front row. Last week's Watkins Glen winner Robby Gordon qualified third followed by the suprising Kevin LePage and Terry Labonte.

Jason Keller turned in a strong run in the NetZero Pontiac to qualify sixth with the Top 10 rounded out by Christian Fitipaldi, Jeff Burton, Dave Blaney and Jimmy Spencer.

Winston Cup points leader Matt Kenseth qualified 33rd. Only one driver did not make Sunday's 43 car field - Stacy Compton in the Morgan McClure Motorsports Kodak Pontiac.

Sunday's GFS Marketplace 400 will take the green flag at 1:30 p.m. (ET).
